Cohost writing prompt: @Making-up-Demons — Demon who does not come from Hell, but another place, much more ancient

"Hell?" Her eyebrows rise. "Sweetness, I'm not from hell. There's a darkness older than the world, a living and total darkness, the Long Midnight. And in its belly, the Long Midnight spawned a billion billion children, and digested them back to foam and nothingness, over and over, for aeons, while those who lived long enough fought and ate each other, too; until at last there were those strong enough to rip open their mother's belly and crawl out of the dark. And in the strange new realm outside, they built a vast gate, to keep their mother behind; and around it they built a terrible city, the city of nightmares."

She props her chin on her hand, smiles lazily, wide and slow.

"Hell," she says, with amused contempt. "That's eyeblink-young, and no more than the fear that a powerful bully will punish you. Small. Pedestrian. I am old, sweetness. I am primal. I am called Bykkar-ia-jamokka; I am the fear of your flesh turning on itself, of your body eating itself with horrible teeth."

She pauses, licks one of her canines, and snorts a little.

"Hell," she says again, dismissively. "Really."
