Terrible Secret

Cohost writing prompt: @Making-up-Mech-Pilots — Mech Pilot who harbours a terrible secret

Everyone knew about Redzone's murdered family. About Ten Below's terrible struggle with combat stims. Church's bitter vendetta with his estranged brother on the enemy side. Solo's existential crisis over being secretly cloned so that the government could try to replicate her unique machine synergy, or being the clone, or not knowing which of them was the clone, or there having actually been an entire black-budget squadron of experimental clones, or maybe all of them actually being identical statistical composites of great pilots past that never had any genuine original, or whatever the fuck the deal was with that this week.

Hushmouth sat in the light of the campfire, nestled between the silent scout mechs, collar pulled high and face melting into 3AM chiaroscuro. They'd tried to draw him out a little, and he'd gravelled the usual lines, drawn back.

They understood, and let him brood.

One day someone would figure out that he hadn't so much as had a particularly bad time in high school, and he'd be in for a world of hurt.
