Galactic Renaissance Faire

Cohost writing prompt: @make-up-a-starship-pilot — Starship pilot who definitely has a license for that

"Can I see some paperwork for that?"

"Sure, Inspector!" Kalsas beams, and pings over some PDF bills of sale.

"No, I mean—" the Inspector gives her a look. "You have the spinal railgun from a naval light pursuit cruiser mounted on your freighter. You must need some kind of weapons permit for that."

"It only counts as a licensable weapon once the power's wired up," Kalsas says, still beaming.

"It's a naval ship-to-ship railgun!"

"It's currently an inert antique," Kalsas points out reasonably. "Look, I'm with a volunteer naval history preservation collective, we're in negotiations with the OEM to buy some of their test and calibration gear and the ammunition tooling, you don't simply fire one of these things fresh from the hulk stripper. Yes, we aim to restore it to firing condition. Yes, we'll need permits for that. And we'll get them! When we need them."

"What kind of historical preservation group buys a naval spinal railgun and mounts it on a freighter," the Inspector says, and then stops. "Oh no...are you with those Galactic-Renaissance Faire people?"
